How to Help Prevent Credit Card Fraud
Credit Card Tips (How to help save yourself a lot of hassle)
To help prevent fraud, we're offering a few tips here for people using credit cards. We process thousands of transactions a year and yes, there are fraudulent attempts to steal from us. These basic tips will help ward off these low life scumbags from stealing from you and creating a credit mess. These tips apply to all your credit card transactions, not just at US Recording.
1. When you're at a store or restaurant and you give your credit card to the cashier, make sure you get YOUR card back to avoid an "accidental" swap out. Also, make sure your receipt reflects the proper amount no matter how small the charge may be. Best of all, never allow someone to walk away with your credit card out of sight like at a restaurant. Go with them. This is personal experience.
2. Never give out your credit card number on the phone unless YOU called the merchant. People posing as other businesses call and harvest credit card numbers. And NEVER give out your SS number either.
3. Always deliver your credit card payments by mail right to the post office to prevent people from stealing your mail and getting all your information. Don't leave your payments for anything actually in your mailbox at home.
4. Even though many people think internet credit card payments are unsafe, the fact is far more credit card numbers are stolen by people stealing mail or even your garbage. GET A CROSSCUT SHREDDER and always shred all your credit card stuff. It's actually safer to pay over an SSL secured internet site like US Recording than mailing a check. Checks can be stolen and copies of your checks can be made and cashed easily. They will then also have your signature. And your account number and routing number not to mention the check style.
5. Bank Check Cards: These are dangerous. Never keep more money in the accounts linked to these cards than you need to. Always have separate non linked accounts. And MAKE SURE you keep the cards from your bank stating which accounts are linked.
